The Anagranimals and the wishing tree is the first in a series of books written by Leith Moghli and illustrated by Ian King.
The story is of a group of animals living on the remote island of Pogo Bogo and their adventures after making finding a wishing tree.
As the first in a series of books, this story tells of how the animal friends while enjoying a fun game of hide and seek, find the wishing tree and are granted their wishes. The next morning they all wake to find they have changed into a mixture of their favourite animals and so the Anagranimals are born and their adventures begin.
This story is a fun and bright story book with lots of detailed illustrations to get children excited. I can see how it would be great to spark children’s imaginations and talking about what their wishes might be or which animals they would like to change into and why. I can confess I have always quite liked the idea of being a cat if only so that I could spend all day sleeping somewhere warm!
There are plenty of opportunities as a parent to talk about the story and where your child thinks the story and the Anagranimals might go next. The fonts are beautifully clear and easy to read and the boy had no problem in reading the book, and the fun new animal names kept him on his toes in practicing pronunciation! The book is made from a good quality paper so will withstand a lot of use, and will be a good bedtime story for younger children especially those that love animals.
As the first book in a series the end of the story has been left very open so that the Anagranimals can continue their adventures. I can see a lot of thought has been put into how the Anagranimals can continue on to have lots of fun helping the wishing tree to make his wish come true. I wonder where they will go next?
