Beanies Coffee – Review

Have you tried Beanies Coffee? No neither had we, and we were offered the choice from a great range of flavours which made the Soup Dragon Dad’s eyes light up.

I am not the coffee drinker in the house, but Dragon Dad is, and we get through tons of the stuff! In the run up to Christmas he tends to go a bit mad and loves to try all the flavoured coffees and thinks he is a bit of a cognisor! Beanies have a great range of both ground and instant coffees, so he was the perfect Dragon to try them out!

beanies coffee

Dragon Dad was spoilt for choice, so I chose for him with Cappuccino, Chocolate Cherry, Christmas Pudding, Tiramisu which can come as ground coffees and also Decaf. Dragon Dad started with the Chocolate Cherry and Cappuccino flavours and has been suitably impressed. He said the flavours were really nice, and he liked the hint of Cherry. He has been saving the Christmas pudding for the festive season, and I will admit it certainly smells yummy. Beanies have an amazing range, and something for all coffee drinkers. I was impressed to find that the Beanies range starts from £2.75 for a bag of ground and £2.50 for instant which means they are affordable as well as flavoursome.

The Verdict:

Dragon Dad, says he loves the flavoured coffee and would defiantly ask me to pick it up with the shopping again. He found some flavours very sweet which meant he needed less sugar, and his favourite so far is the Cappuccino Flavour.

Beanies has been available to buy in Sainsbury’s for some time and now and have just launched with two instant flavours in Tesco. To celebrate the Beanies Amaretto Almond, and Irish Cream instants being available now in a Tesco store near you. I am offering a pot of each to three lucky winners!

PetShopBowl Bonfire Night Giveaway

To prepare for the cold winter ahead, PetShopBowl are giving away a Feliway calming diffuser (RRP of £28.29) which lasts up to 4 weeks, to one of my readers. It works by giving out a special scent (odourless to people and other animals) that utilizes a replication of the pheromone that cats leave naturally when they are feeling comfortable in their environment. Every time a cat rubs its nose against objects in the home, it leaves behind this pheromone to mark its territory. Even small changes in your home can upset your cat and prevent them from leaving this pheromone, which in turn makes them feel less secure, and increases their stress. Activities such as redecorating, moving the furniture, having guests, going to the cattery and moving home will remove these natural pheromones for your cat, causing it stress.

Feliway Competition

Stress can lead to unhappy behaviour such as less interaction with you, hiding away, general mischief or even scratching or spraying. Using Feliway will help maintain the scent that gives your cat the feeling of peace and calm and reduce the stress that your cat experiences, creating a home where you and your cat will always be ‘happy together’. Even issues like scratching and spraying can be managed. Especially with fireworks night fast approaching, this competition couldn’t be better timed!

Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia from DK Books is a great reference guide to all 11 doctors and more than 200 friends and foes. This hardback full colour book is great value at RRP £12.99 and can be bought direct from the DK website as well as bookstores.

Ok so even I know that we have a new Doctor on his way, but there are enough fans who would want to read this book from cover to cover. The boy hasn’t even watched more than a handful of episodes and was gripped by this book.

As you would expect from DK books the Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia is filled to bursting with bright coloured full pages. Each one has a title, Data file, and interesting facts. I have found myself flicking through this book to find characters I recognise, from my days behind the sofa!

Time Traveling Toby by Graham Jones

Time Traveling Toby by Graham Jones and illustrated by Neil Parkinson is a new book available online for RRP £6.99. With the aim to bring English history to life, the first book in a series, Time Traveling Toby visits the battle of Britain.

The story of Toby a boy living in un unremarkable village, with its rhyming text, and a magic time traveling car is an easy to read book. The story tells of Toby and his brothers and their journey back in time. We start with Toby and his brothers facing the German bombers at Dover, can they raise the alarm in time?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The book is full of bright illustrations that the boy loves. He seems to have a fascination with anything to do with the war, and the army. This book gently takes children back to a time of their grandparents, but without anything to scary for younger readers and some great facts for the older ones. As a gentle introduction to a difficult topic, I think this is a great book and the boy enjoyed it too. Plenty of information for him to ask questions about and the right amount of detail. I am sure that Toby will be having lots of great adventures and I wonder where he will end up next?

If you would like to find out more about Time Traveling Toby you can visit the website where you can find out more about the book and its creators, you can also find them on Facebook and twitter.

Mum’s on Strike by Laura Kemp

When I saw a review on another site for Mum’s on Strike by Laura Kemp I knew it was a book that I just had to read. It was the title that struck me, as a mum to one, I quite often threaten going on strike in the vain hope my other housemates might pick up something, maybe even the Hoover? I am sure many of you can also associate with this feeling, and since becoming taxi driver to Dad M over Christmas, I know how it feels even more. Here is what Laura says:

Then one night, probably having either been woken by my crying son or my snoring husband, I came up with an idea for a book based on my experience of motherhood. A book for the huge majority of mums who neither have nannies nor personal trainers. A book for those of us who have so much going on in our heads we want to scream but we’re so tired we can barely muster a whimper

So Mum’s on strike was born. The book starts with the idyllic wedding of Lisa and Adam, setting off on married life together and heading on their honeymoon to Tenerife. Fast forward 8 years and you find Lisa and Adam in an all too familiar scene. Dinner on the table and the family not answering till the third call. Something slightly different for each person and still grumbles can be heard. Lisa has accepted the tiredness, and thankless job of Mum to George and Rosie. Like all mums the daily trudge of everyday life is finished with a glass of wine and a TV programme if you are lucky.

mum's on strike

I have enjoyed reading this book, the start of rebellion for Lisa, and the total ignorance of Adam. I feel they are all to familiar, I too would love a “How to be me” strike document and while Dad M does help round the house I can only think that some parts are completely invisible to him. I am only on Day one but already am hooked on this well written book. I look forward to hearing of the consequences of strike on the family and how Lisa will feel. I might even go on strike myself?

Mum’s on strike is available now for RRP £7.99 from bookshops, and might be the best £8 you have spent in a long time! If you would like to find out more about Laura Kemp then visit her website or Facebook page or like me chat to her on twitter.
