Best of British – Review and Giveaway

The Best Of British board game from Drumond Park (RRP £24.99), celebrates everything that makes this island what it is! This game is played with teams or individual players (2-6) and is suitable for ages 12+, although if you are playing as a team you can play with younger players, who I think will enjoy some of the fun questions.

The Best of British box contains a round playing board, 400 question cards, rules and 6 playing pieces. The game follows the same style of play as the other LOGO board games, so if you have played them The Best Of British will need no explaining.

best of british

We like to play The Best of British board game as teams so here is how you set up. Each of the two teams chooses a playing piece and places on the start square of the board. You then choose a question master for the first team, and they pick a card from the box. Starting with the top question on the card (red question) they read out to the other team. If they answer correctly they move their playing piece to that colour space on the board. If they answer incorrectly or pass then the question can be asked to the question masters team. If they can answer correctly then they can move their piece to the questions coloured space.

There are three types of question card, picture, theme and pot luck. Sometimes there is a picture or word clue on the back of the card and this side can be shown to the players. Play continues with each team taking it in turns to ask the questions from each card. Play continues until one of the teams reach the winning zone, where a bonus question must be answered before the team can be declared the winners.

best of british board game

The Best of British is a great game that we have enjoyed playing. The boy likes to be question master and this has improved his reading skills with some new words that he hadn’t come across before. There are some historical and difficult questions but we found there are also some very funny and random questions. Like what is the average weight of an average British snowman? The Best of British board game will be something that I think families can enjoy over a BBQ with friends and family, or if like us you plan to go away this summer it will be fun to take with us for that unexpected wet day!

We had great fun playing this game, and also just testing each other on our British knowledge, we loved the addition of the Olympic questions as the boy could answer some of these. If you would like to try out this fun British board game then have a look below at my giveaway.

Rapidough – Review and Giveaway

Rapidough is a great fun family game from Drumond Park, for ages 8+ playing with two teams (minimum of 4 players) and has a RRP of £24.99. The boy was excited to play Rapidough as I had told him how we had played this game many years ago with friends, and just how bad Dad Dragon was at making things with dough!

rapidough review

So with Bingo Granny arriving for Mothers Day dinner, the challenge was set to play Rapidough. Bingo Granny was keen to find out more and had a little practice with the boy before he decided on teaming up with me, against Granny and Dad. Rapidough is such a simple game and such laugh out loud fun that I knew everyone would enjoy it.

Setup: The box contains two of each, mats, dough, knife, plunger as well as a box of 300 word cards. Choose your teams, and dough colour from the blue and yellow. Then decide from the packs of cards which ones you are going to use. There are three packs Pack one has only one word which must be modelled. Pack 2 has three words and you can choose which you make. Pack 3 have two words on coloured backgrounds which you model the word the same colour as your dough.

rapidough models

Modelling rules are simple as anything goes, and you decide before the game if you are happy for modellers to animate their creations. Modellers start at the same time and race the other team to make and get the correct guess before their opposing team. Sometimes this happens very fast other times it can be slower as more detailed modeling is needed. The first team to model and guess correctly win and steal a plug of dough from the other team. The winner is the one with dough left when the other team run out!

Rapidough has to be a game I remember being fond of playing as I love the dough modelling, and the creations can be so funny. Especially Dad Dragon as he is not the most creative person. The boy is always keen to win and we set of at a great pace winning the first two rounds and stealing dough from a reluctant Bingo Granny. Our opponents soon pulled back with the next few rounds and for some time it was pretty level. Then the boy made a fantastic Statue of Liberty, which even Dad had to admit was very creative. I think however our opponents were cheating a little with less modelling and more gesturing going on.

rapidough

The boy and I won the day with a final flourish, and I have to say it was lovely to see him so happy and engrossed in a game. There was much laughter mostly at Dad trying to make an animal, and then trying to stop the boy from taking dough. Rapidough is defiantly a game for stay in-doors family fun. So if you are stuck for something to play with your family on a wet day we can thoroughly recommend Rapidough. If like us you are a smaller family of 3, then don’t worry as the boy invented his own modelling guessing game. He modelled the words and I had to guess the answers, the rules can also be adjusted as suits your family, and even little kids can team up with grown ups to be guesser’s.

You can buy Rapidough from your local toy retailer or online using this Amazon affiliate link

Shout! from Drumond Park – Review

Shout! is a fab new team game from Drumond Park for 2 or more players aged 12+ and has an RRP of £29.99. described as the new game of quirky questions we were keen to find out more.

The Shout! box contains: a question stand with built-in score board, and timer (made from pieces that lock together, some assembly is needed) question cards and double or nothing card, scoring pegs and instructions.

Play starts with the youngest player, and a question card is placed in the slot with the picture facing the guessing team or player. The question is asked and the timer starts. The game may be simple so far but as we found out the answers are not always easy to spot! Each card can be worth up to 9 points or double if you use you double or nothing card. But beware as the name suggests if you don’t get all nine you get nothing. The winning team is the first one to score 69, or you could go to 99 if you wanted too.

shout

We did find this game tricky and had a couple of practice questions before we got the idea of what the answers might be. I certainly found some of the cards harder than others, and I think this is a game for older groups. The Shout! board is fun, but we found moving the pegs could be a bit tricky too, and it would have been nice if they were a bigger contrast in colour so you could see the score easier.

shout board game

Shout! is best played as a large group game, and as there was only the three of us it was soon evident that this game was too hard for the boy, so he became scorer and judge! Drumond Park games are great and shout is no exception, although played with just two players it certainly felt a little slow. With more players I think this game would be fast and furious as you all shout! out your answers. This game is defiantly something fun for older adult groups and would be perfect for a Christmas party. The boy who is only just 9 did get a couple of the clues so younger kids could join in with teams of adults and it would certainly be cause for some loud party fun.

If you would like the chance to add Shout! to your games cupboard this Christmas as part of my 12 giveaways of Christmas then why not enter my gleam giveaway below.

Logo Grab – Review

Logo Grab is a great fun and very portable new game from Drumond Park, for 2-4 players aged 8+ RRP £14.99.

The Logo Grab box contains: 8 dice with letter, two of which have a bell inside. 48 Logo picture cards, dice bag and instructions.

As will all great games Logo Grab is easy to learn, and because there are only a few rules can be picked up and mastered quickly. Simply shuffle the cards and lay out nine in a 3×3 grid. Deal each player 2 cards face up in front of them, then take it in turns to pull 4 dice from the bag and roll on the table. Players try and spot a brand beginning with one of the upturned dice letters, and shout out the brand, grabbing the dice as they do.

logo grab

The aim of the game is to collect sets of matching brands but beware, if you grab a dice with a bell you have to put one of your cards back in the pack. Play continues in turn until one person collects two different sets of three matching brand cards.

logo grab setup

With such simple rules the boy picked this game up quickly, and just as quickly learnt to shout and grab the dice. He got a bit upset when he had to put cards back but with such sharp eyes, was quick to spot the matching cards and letters. We have all loved playing this game, and our only problem is that the boy keeps beating us!

The boy says “I love this game its fast and makes me think. I like to own the beetle, and Marmite because they are my favourites.

Logo Grab is available now from toy stores and online, and although it says aged 8+ younger children could get involved with a team, as this is such a versatile and playable game. We love the Logo family of games, and Logo Grab is no exception, especially as it has a short game time and would be easy to take away on holiday.

If you would like the chance to win Logo Grab for yourselves then why not enter my giveaway, or add it to your Christmas List as I have heard Santa has ordered lots on order this year!

Pumpaloons review

Pumpaloons is the latest game we have been sent by Drumond Park. Pumpaloons is a game for two players aged 4+ and has an RRP of £19.99.

When I told the boy that Drumond Park were sending us Pumpaloons to review, I have to say he was not impressed. I think the reply I had was something like “I have seen those on TV and they don’t look very good” Well its been an interesting week since they arrived as the Pumpaloons have now become the boys best friends.

pumpaloons

The Pumpaloons box contains two hand/foot pumps with the attachments to blow up the Pumpaloons, and of course the Pumpaloons themselves. The Pumpaloons are about 3ft high inflatable figures with a solid sand filled base and smiley faces! The game itself is simple. You have a race with your friend or in this case Mum/Dad to pump up your figure to full height before you opponent. I did think the boy would find limited appeal with this game, but have been proved wrong, as he has enjoyed finding other games to play with his new Pumpaloon friends.

pumpaloons game

Pumpaloons is a great game to encourage coordination, you can choose to pump with your foot, hand and the boy even tried using his bottom. We have enjoyed looking at how the pump works. There is science involved in how the air is sucked in and blown out of the small pump. Once pumped up there is a paddling pool type valve so you can enjoy using the Pumpaloons like the boy has for other games around the house.

get ready to race

The first new game he devised was an obstacle course with the Pumpaloons being the final task in a string of different ball throwing, water pistol shooting, tasks. Dad M and the boy enjoyed a few races, with trampolining bonus levels! The Pumpaloons have had wrestling matches across the living room floor, races, and are now waiting on the sofa for the return of the boy from school. Yesterday the Pumpaloons became criminals, dressed in the boys clothes were duly arrested before breaking out from maximum security jail.

Pumpaloons race gameI can see there will be lots of summer fun with the Pumpaloons, They will be making a visit to the beach with us for another obstacle race, and as the weather warms up I can see a paddling pool Pumpaloon game idea forming too.

Pumpaloons can be bought from all the main toy stores as well as online retailers, and we think will make a great addition to the outdoor game collection.

If you would like to invent your own fun Pumpaloon game, then why not enter my giveaway below, I would also love to see instagram pictures of you having some outdoor fun with your kids this summer.

    Don’t Laugh

Don’t Laugh, is a fun board game from Drumond Park for ages 8+ it sounds easy, but after having a go its much more difficult than the name suggests! When the box arrived the boy couldn’t wait to get started, but he had to wait a short while as I went out to get batteries.

    don't laugh

The box contains, a microphone (requires 3AAA batteries not included) 4 playing pieces, rules, board, and 100 double sided joke cards. As with other Drummond Park games, the rules are clear and simple, the clue to the game is in the title, the whole idea of the game is not to laugh! The youngest player starts, they choose a joke from the top card and read it out, then push the timer on the microphone. The other players have to try their hardest to keep a straight face until the timer finishes. During this time the joke teller can use sound effects from the microphone to catch the other players off guard!

We had great fun learning how to play Don’t Laugh, and the boy was very good at reading the joke cards, choosing one that would make us laugh is the key to the game. We discovered that Dad M not only cheated, but also couldn’t keep a straight face, meaning he was good to score points off. There are additional rules, of pressing one button dependant on the space your playing piece lands on the board. But to be honest, because the buttons on the microphone are small and all the same colour we found it difficult to remember which one was which. It was good fun just looking at Dad M as he tried to keep a straight face!

    game play dont laugh

The winner of the game is the first person to cross the finish line, you score one point for each person you made laugh so the more people who play the quicker the game play is. We would recommend Don’t Laugh for your next kids party, and ages 8-10 will think Don’t Laugh is very funny. With some very funny noises on the electronic microphone including silly voices that sound just like minions!

There were good and bad jokes, and some we just didn’t get, this added to the fun as we had to explain some to the boy. With three jokes to each side of a card, 600 jokes in total should keep you playing for a while. We also thought this would be a great sleepover game. We think the boy would have more fun playing with his friends rather than a grown up family game. Find out more about Drumond Park on Facebook and twitter. Don’t Laugh is available now from retailers and online for RRP £19.99

The All New Catch Phrase Board Game

The All New Catch Phrase Board Game from Drumond Park is a game based on the increasingly popular TV show hosted by Stephen Mulhern. You will find all your favourite parts of the show transferred into this fun board game. Recommended for ages 8+, 2-4 players with one player being the game host, and costing RRP £19.99.

We first reviewed this game just before Christmas last year, and have had fun playing, what is a great family game. We discovered that Bingo Granny is very good at this game, and the boy struggled a bit. We decided to team up for a few games to give him a chance. Playing more recently the boy has improved, as he becomes more confident in how the game works. He has enjoyed playing the Catch Phrase board game and as we already had a copy, we decided to pass on the spare one to the hospital where we recently spent the night.

    catchphrase from drumond park

The All New Catch Phrase Board game box contains:

If they don’t manage it within the time, then it will be opened up to the other players to try to steal and the fastest answer wins. The correct guess is awarded with £100. The host then reveals one window from the bonus catch phrase (in number order 1-9) and everyone gets one guess. play continues on this round until all 9 windows have been revealed or the correct answer is guessed. The winner receiving £300 to add to their kitty.

    Round 2: Rapid Fire Round

This round is played in a similar way to round one, except each of the catch phrases is open for all contestants to answer. You can have as many guesses as you like with a total of 5 catch phrases to be guessed. The correct guess will win £200.

Round 3: Super Catch Phrase Round

Starting from the bottom players all have the chance to call out the answers as each catch phrase is revealed. The bottom row wins £300, next row £400 finally with the top row worth £500. The host can check the answers on the bottom of the card with the special red filter.

    The winner:

Once you have had the first round a new host takes over, and when everyone has had a go at hosting the winner will be the person with the most money.

    can you guess the catchphrase

We still love this game, although as you work your way through the cards the boy has started to memorize some of the answers. The boy also enjoys being the host, and this is done in an enthusiastic style as his current favourite tv channel is challenge! I would like to see a top up set of cards available for this game, and also our My chips who is made from cardboard has started to look a little tatty. This is still a fun family game and if you would like the chance to win a copy then why not enter my giveaway below.

    Articulate

    Articulate: ar·tic·u·late [adj., n. ahr-tik-yuh-lit; v. ahr-tik-yuh-leyt] Show IPA

adjective, uttered clearly in distinct syllables. Capable of speech; not speechless. Using language easily and fluently; having facility with words: an articulate speaker.

Board games are a great way to encourage children to read without them realizing they are learning. Articulate from Drumond Park is a fun word game which will encourage reading and language. For 4-20+ players who play in teams, recommended age 12+ this game has been around for over 20 years and still tops the Adult board game charts.

    This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We first came across this game last Christmas at a friend’s house, and although the boy was only 7 then and their youngest was 6 they both still enjoyed getting involved and playing this fast paced word game.

The box contains, rules, playing board, spinner, timer, 4 cone-shaped counters and 500 question cards. The rules are simple which makes game play easy to learn, travel from start to finish on the board by describing and guessing words from your category, from the question cards. Guess as many right as you can before the timer runs out and advance round the board to win.

Simplz! well not quite, you can’t use part of the word from the card, or say sounds like. Giving hints and clues on how long short a word is and no miming! This game really is a skill of quick descriptions. With an added element of spinning the centre spinner when you land on an extended space, you can move forward or even move an opposing team backwards!

I know when we play this game it gets heated, and any extra rules need to be decided at the start. The boy loves all word games and this is no exception, I know he is only 8 but we have adapted to allow him extra time to read the cards and return words he doesn’t know, but only after we have told him what they mean. We have enjoyed playing this game, and will be challenging Bingo Granny to a game this Sunday.

Articulate is available in High Street stores, as well as online for RRP £32.99, with extra card packs (RRP £19.99) and Articulate your Life (RRP £32.99) the family keeps growing. There is also a version for the youngsters, Articulate for Kids is available for RRP  £19.99 and can be played as a stand alone or alongside the adult version. If you would like to have a chance to win a copy of Articulate, and see how good you are at describing for yourself, then enter the rafflecopter below.

    Mask ‘n’ Ask Game review

Mask ‘n’ Ask is a fun family game from Drumond Park for 2-4 players aged 7+ RRP £16.99. From the minute you open the box you realise that this is going to be a fun, giggly type of family game. With glasses for each player to slot their new identity into, this 20 questions style game made us all smile.

The idea of the game is to work out who or what you are, by asking questions like “Do I wear a hat?” “Do I have spots?” there are 60 different masks to choose from with animals and profession’s. A box contains a board with questions, spinner, answer sheet, yes/no tokens, four playing pieces, four pairs of glasses and rule sheet. Spin the spinner and ask the question printed on the board. No need to worry about forgetting who answered yes or no as you have counters to keep track. There is even a crib sheet in case you are not sure of how to answer.

    This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This game is great fun and we have enjoyed playing it, it gets the boy thinking about how to answer, and is a game that even Granny can’t say she doesn’t know how to play. The concept might be easy but there are hours of fun, and with the 60 different masks there is little repetition. You don’t even need to sit round the table which is great for Christmas as you can all get involved whatever size space you have!

    Catch Phrase TV board game

This weekend we have been playing Catch Phrase TV Board Game from Drumond Park. Catch Phrase is a game I remember watching as a child with my Nan, and still remember the “Say What You See” catch phrase of its own. Now that the TV show has returned with Stephen Mulhern at the helm, Drumond Park have made the return of the board game. Complete with Mr Chips and all new catch phrases, the boy was keen to try it out. The boy hasn’t watched the programme, but he understood the concept and decided he would like to be the game host.

Catch Phrase is suitable for 2-4 players aged 8+, we did try playing with two people and found it a bit difficult as one of you has to be the host. We think Catch Phrase is much better if played with three or more, and if you have a large family you could adapt it to play in teams especially if you have little ones. You have rounds just like in the game show with each round earing you money, and the winner being the person with the most money at the end of the game.

The game comes with 96 double-sided catch phrase cards, 15 larger bonus catch phrase cards, with a slide in holder, 48 super catch phrase cards, money, a playing board and my chips. We found some of the pieces difficult to assemble and take apart especially Mr Chips who doesn’t store back in the box once assembled, but this didn’t stop the game from being good fun. The boy enjoyed being the host of the show, and picked up the rules very quickly. The pictures were not to difficult for him to guess a few. As well as some classic words there are some cheeky new ones which I don’t think Granny would get, so this makes it fair for all ages to play together.

Catch Phrase will be a game that we get out for some of our visitors over the festive season, and as you have plenty of cards I don’t think that they will repeat too often that you would get bored if start to remember the answers. Catch Phrase is available from all good shops and has a RRP £19.99, this game doesn’t beat Logo Billionaire as the boys favourite game, so for that reason we give it a 4/5.

We still enjoyed playing Catch Phrase and if you would like to have a chance to try this game then why not enter our giveaway.
